Censorship is: The suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security, according to Oxford. It has long meant only government action. It is not censorship when individuals, businesses or members of a community choose not to support a book or choose to lobby to have such removed from a store. It is only censorship when government orders the suppression. The number quoted of 18,000 books “attempted” to be removed is meaningless. Attempts to remove something are quite different than government having engaged in the removal.
