Administrators from the Academic Success Center hosted a book signing in the Moffett library Last Thursday for Local author Jim Black. This was a chance for Black to greet his readers and talk about his book, River Season, which is a story of his summer in Archer City growing up.
“It is autobiographical. It includes a story of myself and my best friends of a time growing up and a hijinks we got into,” said Jim Black.
Black’s book River Season is being used in classes here at MSU.
“The college collection class used it this year. Tom Hoffman has been using and his freshman class has been using for three years. I think tom put the bug in their ear and has been promoting it,” Black said. “So they set this up so any of the 418 that want their book signed can come by. And thus far three have.”
Despite the book signing not being as big of a hit as hoped for, Black says he still enjoys getting to meet his readers. Some students ask Black how successful the book has been, but he says that his accomplishment is not always measured in profit.
“I told them Monitarily not a whole lot, a few thousand copies. But the real success of River Season and the other two books are my scrap books at home that are filled with emails, letters, and cards that were sent to me from all over the country,” Black said. “All of those things have made me a rich man. They are worth their weight in gold.”
