FallsFest, a yearly outdoor festival in Wichita Falls, will be held at Lucy Park Sept. 28-29 for its 28th year. Unfortunately last year’s event was rained out, but this year is expected to be bigger than ever.
“Last year FallsFest got rained out so we’re amplifying this year’s FallsFest to be bigger and better to make up for lost time,” Merrill Sweatt, representative of M. Lynne Designs and co-publicity chairwoman, said.
Endeavors to make the festival in of the best yet began when the 73-member steering committee undertook their respective challenges in early 2012. Their dedication, along with over 1,700 League and community volunteers providing over 12,000 hours of service will again bring another successful FallsFest. Local businesses also play a foundational role through their generous sponsorships.
The outdoor festival will have fun and entertainment for all ages.
“There will be tons of food and games, rock climbing, a big swing, power jump, pony rides, bands and entertainment,” Sweatt said.
Live bands will perform Friday and Saturday nights. On Friday, the Casey Donahew Band will be playing with the Mullet Boyz and special guest, Crosswind. On Saturday, the Marshall Tucker Band will be playing with Twicebroken and special guest, Estilo Tejano.
“The number of people expected to attend this two-day event can never really be pinpointed,” Sweatt said, “It usually ranges as to how many people show up, weather has an effect.”
FallsFest is always looking for volunteers, Sweatt said, and MSU students, groups and organizations often volunteer at the event as there are many things to do around the park.
“Usually we get organizations from the university that want to volunteer at the festival. Where and how they volunteer varies on the different areas around that park that we’re needing help with,” Sweatt said.
Sweatt said she hopes the community will take advantage of the once-in-a-year event.
“Everyone should definitely come out and have a good time,” she said. “It’s going to be a blast!”
General admission prices are $6 when purchased in advance and $8 at the gate before 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 when purchased after 5 p.m. FallsFest begins Friday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
