In an update issued Dec. 8 at 6 p.m., university officials announced, “Classes and offices will open at regularly scheduled times Monday, Dec. 9.”
The online update urged students to “use caution in the parking lots as there may be a few remaining slick spots. Crews will begin working in the lots at 7:30 a.m.”
Randy Canivel, coordinator, said the Fantasy of Lights opening would also be postponed until possibly Monday.
“Safety is my biggest concern,” Canivel said, noting that he would be working with administrators to determine the final schedule and whether or not the lights might be turned on before the formal celebration.
Moffett Library is closed Friday, and according to a tweet from Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Keith Lamb, the Wellness Center and Clark Student Center will be open, but wellness classes are canceled.
Betty Stewart, provost, said, “We have made a strategic plan for this because of the weather. As for the finals on Saturday, if the school is still closed, we will give alternate dates for them next week.”
If the campus is still closed Monday, any missed finals will be rescheduled for Friday.
Stewart said, “Students should check email, the website and all social media for all updates.”
The University Programming Board’s Finals Frenzy scheduled for tonight is still happening according to @MidwesternState.
“#FinalsFrenzy13 is still on for tonight from 7 – 11 p.m. in the CSC. Be sure to come and have a great time but do be cautious,” the tweet said.
The mass communication senior projects scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Friday, have not yet been rescheduled.
Brittany D’Alesandro, a graduating senior in mass communication, said “If the school closes and senior screenings need to be rescheduled, it can affect a lot of things. For example, the location might change, attendance may be affected and each group may be missing members due to work conflicts and other scheduling issues not to mention if we reschedule for Friday the 13th, seniors who are graduating on Saturday may have family who are coming in to town and may need to be picked up.”
The art department chair declined to comment on the senior exhibition scheduled for Friday, 6-8 p.m., but according to Audra Lambert, senior in art, the exhibition has been postponed.
“We our rescheduling the senior exhibition for next Friday at 6-8 p.m. Since that, we our expecting not as many people to show up. Many of the students are scared that they might not get off campus,” Lambert said.
On Friday morning, Art Professor Gary Goldberg made the following post to Facebook.
“Due to inclement weather conditions, the Senior Exhibition opening scheduled for Dec. 6 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. in the Juanita Harvey Art Gallery at the Fain Fine Arts Center has been rescheduled for Friday, Dec. 13 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.,” Goldberg said. “This exhibition will be open to the general public starting Monday, Dec. 9 during the regular office hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.”
Carter Wallace, senior in theater and stage manager for “School cancellations and show cancellations are separate decisions and the show is still pending. If the shows are cancelled they will not be rescheduled for another weekend. We could still potentially have the show tomorrow and Saturday.”
