The Midwestern State football team walked away from the season opener with a win against the Missouri S&T Miners, 40-23.
The Mustangs had the crowd in disbelief after allowing Missouri to score two touchdowns within the first four minutes on the play clock. The Mustangs would trail 0-14, but a big play by junior Dominique Williams who ran a 47- yard punt return all the way into the end zone put Midwestern on the board, sparking an offensive surge.
Impressive plays in the second quarter by senior quarterback Jake Glover who rushed 10- yards for a MSU TD, and sophomore Dante Taylor who rushed 58- yards for a Mustangs TD, a nail biting 65- yard pass from sophomore quarterback Quade Coward to Levy Wilson for a MSU TD all contributed to their 34- 20 lead over the Miners going into halftime.
Midwestern would close the second half with consecutive field goals a 30- yard field goal in the third quarter, and a 41- yard field goal in the fourth from sophomore kicker Dylan McLain to grant the Mustangs with a 40- 23 W this season opener.
As a reminder of the 27-10 loss against Tarleton State at AT&T Stadium last season QB Jake Glover says this year he ” hopes to make better decisions, execute better & be more accurate with his passes” as they prepare to travel back to Arlington, TX to prevail in the LSC game over Eastern New Mexico next week.
